The reconstruction of the attic space in a family house in Benešov u Prahy, designed by architect Mgr. Markéta Daňková from ATELIER MALOVANE, represents a sensitive adaptation of unused land into a bright and airy studio. This space expands the existing living space with a place for work, relaxation and future use for children.

The original dark attic with its distinctive beams and limited dimensions was transformed into an open living space with a mezzanine, bedroom and technical facilities. The openness and airiness of the space is supported by the separation of the study with a glass partition and the “sniffing room” on the mezzanine with an almost invisible steel mesh.

The layout is simple and easy to read - a central hallway connects the entrance with the bathroom and living area, which is followed by a bedroom separated by a DORSIS Digero partition. The main part of the interior consists of a living room with a kitchenette and a dining table. Everything is complemented by consistently designed custom-made storage furniture that respects the sloping ceilings and the variable height of the space.

We participated in the implementation by supplying several elements that contribute to a clean and unobtrusive solution of details. The interior uses hidden door frames Fortius 52, thanks to which the door naturally connects to the plasterboard walls without visible framing. This type of door frame supports the calm visual rhythm of the interior and allows for maximum integration of the door into the architecture of the space.

The delivery included, in addition to the door frame, Linus concealed skirting boardsThese ensure a seamless connection between the floor and walls and create a continuous, unobstructed view - without a classic plinth, which would look too dominant in a small space.

A striking but naturally fitting element is frame partition wall Digero Swing, which separates the bedroom from the living area. The partition is designed with the sloping ceilings in mind, which it copies both in height and inclination. The use of frosted glass allows daylight to pass through, but at the same time ensures sufficient privacy. Thanks to the subtle frame, the partition has a light and gentle appearance.

Emphasis was placed on preserving original features, such as old beams, and combining them with modern materials and designer elements. The interior is designed with variability and future use in mind, with most of the furnishings custom-made according to the architect's design.

This project became a finalist in the 2024 Interior of the Year competition in the VELUX Interior of the Year category, which recognizes projects working with daylight in attic spaces.
