Executive DORSIS

With our managing director Jan Krejčí about hidden door frames and minimalism

Elegance in the interior manifests itself differently in each period - the present day wishes for simplicity and aesthetic purity. Our CEO, Mr. Jan Krejčí, has something to say about it. We talked with him not only about the beauty of minimalism, but mainly about hidden door frames. They represent one of the basic style-creating elements of a modern interior, even if – as Jan Krejčí says – their main mission is not to be seen.

What are the advantages of hidden door frames?

Concealed door frames represent a beautiful design solution for the door opening – the door frame and hinges remain hidden, the door leaf is flush with the wall, it is only up to us to choose the door design. The trend of modern architecture is minimalism and aesthetic purity, doors with hidden frames are almost a necessary part of interior design in recent years.
From the point of view of construction and technology, doors with hidden frames offer a complete range of possible uses - they are suitable for walls and plasterboard partitions, universal for opening inwards and outwards, with a passage height of up to 3500mm, i.e. up to the ceiling of most common interiors. The advantage over classic panel door frames is definitely the simple application of squeegee, wallpaper, tiles on the facing side of the wing and the lower need for maintenance of all edges that extend beyond the face of the wall.

Is it possible to clearly determine which door finish customers prefer the most?

Modern trends highlight the need for the harmony of the main interior elements, which leads to timelessly simple solutions. Therefore, customers prefer a solution that allows the door leaf to be set back and match its color with the surrounding wall. Therefore, door wings painted in white are very popular.
The second attractive trend is the use of wooden veneer, which is identical to the veneer on the surrounding furniture, the harmony in the interior is then really perfect. That is why we often install door leaves with natural or twisted oak in matt varnish or oil.

What modern accessories/gadgets can be added to the door today?

Dorsis doors can of course be retrofitted with technical elements ensuring additional user comfort. The acoustic version of the door is very popular, when the door is equipped with a drop threshold, which limits the passage of noise. Installation of magnetic stops is also common, which aesthetically solves the protection of doors and handles from hitting walls - part of the mechanism is hidden in the lower edge of the door, part is very simply installed on the final floor without the need for drilling. Above-standard Fortius doors with a thickness of 52 mm can of course be retrofitted with electric openers or systems with card locks.

What are the current trends in interior doors?

We are happy that Dorsis is growing in an era that embraces minimalism – a supremely design style, modern practical and yet non-dominant, in short, an ideal way to solve the door space. Doors with hidden frames are one of the basic elements of contemporary home design.
We see growing interest mainly for the Fortius 52 concept – a door with hidden frames in quality that surpasses the standards common in the markets where we operate. Classic interior versions are successful, I also see a growing interest in functional variants, for example security or fire doors with hidden frames.

What is the most important thing to consider when choosing a door?

Of course, customers prefer to solve the design of the door leaf, our task is to assist in the selection of the door so that we take into account the practical side together. It is necessary to think about where the door is located - is it better to have an opening or sliding door, should it resist moisture in the bathroom or better dampen noise in the quiet zone of the apartment? Do we want to install additional technical equipment, for example hidden self-closers, magnetic stops? In short, it is good to realize that we are installing the door permanently, so you need to pay enough attention to choosing the right design and technical solution, it will pay off.

Classic revolving doors, pivot doors, sliding doors to the wall and sliding doors to the housing - is the selection of a suitable variant only based on the available space, or do other parameters also play a role?

The basic parameter for choosing the type of door is, of course, the size of the door opening and the area adjacent to the door. Of course, Belport sliding doors are ideal for small or narrow spaces, as well as doors with hidden door frames in the version with a height up to the ceiling, they can visually enlarge even small rooms. In larger spaces, on the other hand, the design options of Dorsis Woody premium doors with an added flat frame are excellent. Among the exceptional variants, the combination of the Axon pivot door and the Digero industrial partition can be highlighted, which will make it possible to divide large spaces while maintaining the overall lightness of the interior.
The second factor, of course, should be the character of the rooms adjacent to the door. We always recommend classic variants for bedrooms, bathrooms or technical rooms, sliding doors or variants with glazing are of course more suitable for living rooms, offices, in short, where it is common to leave the door open.

What materials are Dorsis doors made of and do the individual variants differ in terms of properties?

The vast majority of our production of doors with hidden frames is tailored to specific projects. The basis of the construction of the Fortius 52 door leaf is a double wooden frame combined with a lightweight filler plate, but the individual solution corresponds to the technical specifications, especially the dimensions of the door opening. The choice of internal structure is defined by functional requirements – acoustic doors providing acoustic attenuation of up to 37dB, fire-resistant doors or unique security doors with hidden frames have a different internal composition.
For the customer, the design of the door leaf is often the most important, i.e. basically the visible top layer – they can choose between natural veneers, lacquered MDF boards or preparation of the door leaf for screed, wallpapering or tiling. Cladding with an extra-thick MDF board in combination with a solid frame ensures the exceptional strength of the Fortius 52 door, so there is no need to worry that if you use tiles or putty on the door, it will affect the long-term rigidity of the door compared to a light veneer.

Realization of hidden frames and doors without an upper lintel and sliding doors with a hidden rail in the project of young authors Monika and Mark from the Monmar studio. The authors found an answer to the question of how to combine the life of a young family and work.
